Continued...Part 2: Something Different....Modern Couture Bouquets and Accessories

Today's post is a continuation of our last post on finding something different for your wedding. We are continuing with additional photos of modern, couture bouquets and other feathered items.

This particular style of bouquet was created for a bride who contacted me and wanted very much to use natural (bright and colorful) peacock feathers in her bouquet. At first I was hesitant to even create this bouquet since I was worried that it would be too dark and the bride would not like it in the end. I must admit, that this bouquet is by far my FAVORITE one now. If you have a chance, you should run by Wedding 101 (get directions at www.wedding101.net) to see it in person in our display. The pictures truly do not do it justice and the feathers are so soft that it is really a nice bouquet to hold. The perimeter of the bouquet is made up of big, beautiful peacock feathers while the center is mostly made up of black goose biots with accents of purple and green goose biots to bring out the vibrant colors of the peacock feathers. There are also some peacock swords thrown in for good measure. The base of the bouquet inside the peacock eyes has some black maribou feathers thrown in and the base of the bouquet outside of the peacock eyes has some black ostrich feathers along with some black maribou feathers. It is so chic and modern!

This is a view of the side of the bouquet. You can also see a white and black pheasant feather along the outides of the base. The handle is covered in black satin ribbon.

Here are a couple of photos of the boutonnieres we created for one bride who utilized this bouquet. Keep in mind that some brides primarily use flowers in their bouquets and have a couple of accent feathers and then have us create feathered bouts and fascinators to complement their flowered bouquet so the look of flowers and feathers can totall be blended.

Peacock Boutonniere
Peacock BoutonniereHere are several different styles of fascinators we have created (either on snap clips, alligator clips, or combs) to match the basic style of this bouquet.

Below is another bouquet that was utilized by a bride who wanted a different style bouquet. She wanted a simple "one sided" bouquet for her to carry in one arm and she wanted a mix of white and peacock feathers since she wanted the sharp contrast between light and dark. This was a custom creation to a bride's specifications. This bouquet featured some extra long ostrich feathers in the back with several peacock eyes and a few peacock swords in the front. The handle of the bouquet was covered in black satin and the base of the bouquet was covered in an ostrich feather boa to give a full look.

This was not my favorite bouquet, but in the end the bride was happy and we were able to fulfill her vision for her wedding so I was very happy for that!

Stay tuned for more updates including some additional fascinators and other feathered creations!

Something Different....Modern Couture Bouquets and Accessories

I often times work with brides who are looking for something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and something....DIFFERENT. Even the brides I see who are interested in having a mostly traditional wedding usually want to utilize some things in their wedding that sets it apart from everyone else's wedding. You want you wedding to be different...unusual...unique...memorable.
One way to accomplish this is by carrying a modern, couture bouquet that is created especially for your wedding...with your colors and style taken into consideration.

Here are some examples of the bouquets, bouts, centerpieces, corsages, and fascinators (hair pieces) we have created for other brides. They look awesome when coordinated for a cohesive look. Just think - for about the same cost as flowers (sometimes less) you can keep your bouquet forever! Remember that these can be custom designed to suit your event! Now these feathered items are obviously not for everyone, but if you are looking for a modern, unexpected way to inject some drama and beauty into your wedding, this may be for you!

This first bouquet request came from a bride having a very traditional, upscale wedding. She wanted something that would blend in with the conventional overall look of her wedding, but she also wanted something more exciting than the standard white flower bouquet. We created this bouquet for her using white ostrich feathers around the outside with mostly white goose biots in the center (the long skinny white feathers) acccented by some black goose biots to break up all the white and match the guys' tuxedos. We also added some white pearls and silver beaded accents in the center to dress it up a little. I think it turned out beautiful and the pictures do not even do it justice...you should have seen it in person!

This shows the side of the bouquet. The handle of the bouquet is dressed with black satin ribbon accented by pearl pins. The base of the bouquet is trimmed out with a white maribou boa.

This is a photo of the fascinator we did for the bride's hairpiece. She was actually opting to wear a veil for the wedding ceremony, but wanted to wear something fun and different for the wedding reception since she would be dancing and having fun. We can attach fascinators to snaps, alligator clips, or combs. Many brides are now choosing to attach their fascinators to snaps or alligator clips INSTEAD of combs since the snaps and clips provide more of a no slip grip type hold. The fascinator can also be accented by adding hot fix adhesive gems for an added sparkle.

This next bouquet has been SO popular. After creating the first one in my studio and posting on to our etsy account (Shameless Plug Alert: Visit us at www.byheartandhand.etsy.com to see our designs or submit a special custom request), we have sold several to brides by word of mouth or to brides who found us on etsy, but wanted the design tweaked a little for their weddings. It is truly a beautiful color palette that works great for fall weddings because of the burnt orange color of the feathered flowers. It is also a great choice for outdoor weddings because of the natural wood elements.

This is a sideview of the bleached peacock bouquet. The handle of this one is wrapped in ivory satin ribbon, but for other brides, we have wrapped the handle in black satin, a leopard print satin ribbon, or a chocolate brown ribbon. We can customize to your specifications. We also frequently make smaller version bouquets to be carried by bridesmaids.

The next two photos show the same bouquet style created as centerpieces. There is a side view and a top view. We have created these previously in different base containers as well. This particular one was made to fit inside a cardboard box that had been covered in black cardstock to save money on the containers and make the centerpieces even more affordable for the bride. We try to work with brides to get them an end product they like in the most affordable way.

Below are a few different styles of fascinators that we have sold to brides to coordinate with this bleached peacock bouquet.

This next bouquet was created for a bride having a "rocker theme" wedding with a hot pink and white color scheme. For the center we used a silk flower and some glittered white spindly branches. For the outside we used LARGE hot pink ostrich feathers. Although this would be a bit of an outlandish look for the average bride, this unconventional bride LOVED the finished look.
This is a side view of the bouquet showing the handle which was wrapped with hot pink and white satin ribbon.

This is the fascinator we made for this unconventional bride who had absolutely no desire to wear a veil! There are light pink stripped coque feathers in the background topped by a hot pink ostrich feather and another smaller ostrich feather in light pink and white feathers in the foreground. We reproduced this same fascinator for another woman who was wearing it to the Kentucky Derby! How fun!
While I personally had a fairly traditional wedding, I must admit that I LOVE to work with brides who are so eager and excited to personalize their own weddings and make them reflect their personalities even if that means being slightly unconventional. These brides are so fun to work with!
Stay tuned to my blog for the next few days as I will be updating with additional photos of these feathered items...

Setting up for Wedding 101...

I went by Wedding 101 this afternoon to drop off the bookcase for our display. I will be going back tomorrow to set up the display there and drop off our portfolio. The place really does seem to be coming together nicely. For anyone, not aware, I blogged about this new concept in wedding planning in Nashville a few days ago. You can find that blog here...

http://byheartandhand.blogspot.com/2009/08/exciting-new-concept-coming-to-factory.html

The official opening for Wedding 101 is on Saturday. I think it will be a great no cost resource for local area brides. They have a studio at the Factory in Franklin with Portfolios from local area vendors. Their goal is to connect discerning brides with quality vendors.

Check out their website for more information at http://www.wedding101.net/. Stay tuned as we will post some photos of our display when we have it set up.

Exciting New Concept coming to The Factory at Franklin...

There is a new concept in wedding planning coming to The Factory in Franklin. Well I guess it is not totally new...more like new this this area, but that makes it truly exciting for those in the Wedding world. It is called Wedding 101 and we think it is a fabulous idea! This idea is the brainchild of Amy Hill Dickerson and Ashley Raye Hicks. I have met both ladies and found them to be helpful and personable. Amy and Ashley's goal with this venture is to create a convenient and handy resource center for brides...kind of a "one stop shop" that brides can visit to educate themselves on vendors before having to call every vendor in town.

The studio itself is done up boutique style with comfy furniture and meeting areas. Brides can use this area to relax while reseaching vendors and after contact, the vendors and brides can use the area to make the initial meeting and discuss wedding details. This space may prove to be quite useful for vendors like me who have a home based studio and have had to rent office space or meet brides in loud coffee shops in the past.
Preferred vendors at Wedding 101 can create portfolios or rent space in the studio to set up displays to showcase their services. By Heart and Hand has signed up for a portfolio and display space at Wedding 101 for the next few months. We are so excited about being a part of the new concept in wedding planning. We think it will be a great resource for brides since this service is completely free of charge to the bride as it is paid for by exhibiting vendors! I wish this place was around when I was getting married!
You can check out the Wedding 101 website at www.wedding101.net. There is an invitation only event this Thursday for vendors to celebrate and socialize and then the official grand opening event is on Saturday, August 15, 2009...if you are a local area bride, you should definitely check it out!

Invitations, News, and Upcoming events at BH&H...

A few new invitation designs from BH&H...

Backyard BBQ & Wedding anyone?
Great for a low key wedding...

The ever popular Pocketfold...beach colors...

Hand stamped and hand colored cherry blossom design with hot fix adhesive pearls...

Check out Ashley's Bride Guide Daily Scoop for today as she included us in invitation finds from Weddings the Bridal Show at the Convention Center on July 12. How exciting - thanks, Ashley!

http://www.ashleysbrideguide.com/blog/?p=3532&PHPSESSID=e29b50ea3f09c45054121a40cf589e66

I also wanted to blog today about something we are starting here at By Heart and Hand. As most of you follow us probably know by now, I have a home studio that I work out of. Most of you probably also know that my home studio is about 10 miles south of Lieper's Fork where my husband and I have a little 40 acre farm....not exactly conducive to meeting with brides, but very conducive to living a happy life playing in sunshine with my various outdoor friends (horse, calves, sheep, llama, chickens, etc.). While we do have meeting space in the Brentwood area, it can still be difficult to drive around to meet with couples individually.

So, we are planning some upcoming events at local hotels and meeting spaces to be able to connect with brides on a smaller scale. If you have been to a bridal show, you know that it can be totally overwhelming for both the brides and the vendors. As a bride you are overwhelmed with the choices and wanting to ensure you see every booth possible - while as a vendor, you want to be able to meet as many potential clients as possible in a finite amount of time. This usually means that there is little time to talk specifics with any bride about what she really needs for her day. As a result, we are setting up to host some "Mini Bridal Shows" at local hotels and meeting spaces. We will set the rooms up to showcase the invitations we offer, what is involved in different Event Planning Packages, the linens we rent, and some of our modern, couture feathered bouquets, fascinators, and bouts.

The idea is that we will invite brides from the area(s) around the show location. This is a smaller list of brides so it should allow brides time to talk one on one with a company representative, look through invitation catalogs, and check out our rental items. They can either attend to get ideas of what is available, or we will have employees available to take orders/reservations if the brides are ready to do that. The hope is that this more intimate setting will allow us to better understand what the brides are looking for and get to know them.

We will be planning several of these events in different areas of the mid state in the coming months so that we can cater to brides by meeting with them "in their own back yards."

The first one we have planned is for later this month on the 16th of August and it will be held at the Hampton Inn on Halifax Drive in Columbia, TN. All are welcome to attend. The only thing that we ask is that you go to the listing for the event and sign up for a free ticket. There is no charge associated with this event, but we do ask that you sign up so that we can ensure it is appropriately staffed.

http://www.byheartandhandminishowcolumbia.eventbrite.com/

We look forward to seeing you there - stay tuned for details of other events will be released as they are finalized!

Tea for Two at Dillard's Bridal Show Sunday 08/02/09

By Heart and Hand was invited to participate in the Tea for Two Event at Dillard's in Green Hills on Sunday. It was a bridal gift registry event with a mini bridal show. The staff at Dillard's was awesome. We got to meet a few brides (and offered them deals exclusive to the show) and network with some of the other vendors who were there.

Here are a couple photos of the booth that we set up...

There were yummy goodies to be had from Menu Maker Catering and of course some divine desserts and cake from Dulce Desserts (always delicious). There was a new photographer there that I had not met before. Her name was Kristin Young and she owns Surreal Image Studios - be sure to visit her website and check out her photo gallery. She was delightful to talk to and already has a nice portfolio put together.
Enchanted Brides Magazine was also at the show talking to brides about the magazine and handing out sample magazines. Be sure to check out the new issue of Enchanted Brides magazine (Summer/Fall 2009) issue for our article on Invitations (pages 46-47)! If you don't have a copy of the magazine, you can actually view it on their website. It is a great resource and features articles from some great local vendors.
